As I have progressed from graduate student, to postgraduate, to faculty member, to industrial researcher, to business research manager, to senior technical functional manager, to just plain senior business manager, I have experienced many successes and many pitfalls that a young scientist may face during his or her career. Although I no longer teach for a living, I actually spend a very good part of each day teaching and advising young scientists and engineers how to handle specific issues related to the work I am actually paid to accomplish. While providing this guidance, it has occurred to me that others may in fact also gain some small benefit if I share my experiences and guidance.
Thus I start a series of random posts offering my advice. In order to not offend anyone looking for discussion of my and Still Here Too’s relationship or anyone who generally thinks that scientists are a bunch of geeks and just does not want to even hear about their world (their loss), I will post the discussion on pages that you will find listed in the sidebar to the right. I hope it helps someone out there. A more appropriate place for this series, which will be as long as it is (I will stop only when I get bored or run out of things to post
), might be a separate blog. Perhaps someday, if the number of post grows, I may take the time to set one up. But for now, this is our blog, so I can post here if I want
, and Still Here Too said I can.
Is Still Here
