Well, twelve certainly is, so is ten, and eight too, and surprisingly six would definitely be, and we know you will be shocked to hear us say that even four is too much for most. Actually two is a pretty decent size. Now get your mind out of the gutter! We are talking about houses, dummy. Not far from where we live there are numerous homes of over twelve thousand square feet with only two people as permanent residents. That is 1,115 square meters, for the metrically converted among you. The two of us feel privileged to live in a very nice two thousand square foot home. Could we use more space? Yes, on rare occasions. Do we need more space? No, not really. Would our life be enhanced by more space? No, not really. Do the advertisements, the news articles, the TV shows continually try to convince us that we must have more space? Certainly they do. Do we fall for this pitch? Absolutely not. Do many people fall for this pitch? Unfortunately, yes they do. And not only about the size of their house. If you walk into most furniture stores in the US, you will see furniture that is over sized. If you go out to eat in the US, the meal that they serve you will probably be enough to feed at least two people (thus we often split a meal), and it goes on. Do we really want things so big or have we just been convinced we need things so big by being constantly told we need things so big? We think the latter. We sure don’t really need them.
