Life gets busy. Often life gets busy with activities that really must be accomplished. But way, way too often, life gets busy with activities that we just allow ourselves to become consumed by even though they are not priorities. And when this happens, we give up time and energy that we should be reserving for the most important thing in our lives. True time and energy management is addressing survival, your partner, and then everything else; in that order. And yes, your partner should come before your children! You raise your children and they leave you for their own lives. You LIVE your life WITH your partner. Quite frankly, if you do not think of your partner in this way, we are not sure you have yet totally committed to the partnership.
You should always strive to reserve as much of your best for your partner, never the leftovers. It is often hard in modern society, where so many commitments expect so much from a person. But in the end, you have to find a way to save what really matters to the two of you for just each other. That is what will bind the two of you into the one of a true relationship. Of course this is idealistic and nearly impossible to really achieve. But it should be what each partnership strives for. Be able to talk to each other without being distracted by other thoughts and concerns. Save energy and time for unrushed sex, as often as you both desire. Save time for quiet time to just be together. Save time and energy to help your partner with activities they consider a burden. Share each other’s lives; the pleasures, the burdens, the quite moments, all aspects. Make each other a priority not an afterthought.
