Dear Inconsiderate Person,
You could have at least left a note saying you were sorry for crunching my door.
Still Here Too’s Car
Still Here Too and I have resisted one of the great temptations of suburbia. We have never allowed our two-car garage to be filled with enough “stuff” that we cannot park both our cars inside. However there are still occasions when the family wheels must remain outside. The resurfacing of our neighborhood streets this past week caused such an occasion. When the section in front of our house was done, we lost access to our driveway for a little more than a day and had to leave the cars parked on the open street just down from the house. We live on a quiet cul-de sac with only a single connecting cul-de-sac, so there is little traffic. When Still Here Too went to move her car back into the garage she found the rear, driver-side passenger door well crunched in. No note, nothing. The only cars or other vehicles that had been near her car where those of our neighbors, the lawn service trucks that interrupt the peace every morning and the truck picking up the barricades from the resurfacing. Too big a crunch to have been done without noticing.
First reaction? Damn, how much is this going to cost? Second reaction? Why didn’t whoever did this at least leave a note? Third reaction? You don’t think one of our neighbors did this?
A growing feeling of pressure. A growing feeling of heat. A growing feeling of tension…
And then sanity. A few deep breaths. It is done. It is not going away. All you can do is get it fixed.
Turns out it will only cost a little more than the insurance deductable so we won…t even bother to file. It will only take a few days to fix, a new panel and a little paint. A little time and a tiny bit of stress. I (we) won’t get angry. No, I (we) won’t get angry.
But whoever did it is a real twit - there, now I feel better.
Is Still Here

I had to replace both mirrors on my car (back when I had one). We live on a one-way street and sometimes we parked on one side, and sometimes on the other. Nobody bothered to leave a note either time. It’s not worth the hassle to try to find the perps. Just get it fixed and go on with your life.
As I’ve been explaining on my blog, regarding a series hospital mishaps, suing is for when you are out of pocket and you know who should pay. If you aren’t out of pocket enough to bother a lawyer, or you don’t know who should pay, save your time for things you enjoy.
